Our entryway… π This time last year I couldn’t stand it anymore! The first impression of our home was dark, boring, and had hooks that were too high for the kids (hence backpacks on the banister and floor). I researched diy blogs on how to install board and batten for months and then decided to jump in! It took a long time, and I was out of my comfort zone. But now, we LOVE it! π It’s not perfect (we are NOT carpenters by any means), but not only is it a statement when you walk in the door, it is a much more efficient use of space! The kids know exactly where to put backpacks, and we all love seeing all the family photos! It is beautiful AND useful to us which is more than we could ask for! β€οΈπ
the Before and After…
Here are some of details if you’re looking to spruce up your own entryway!
I looked at LOTS of DIY Board and Batten Blogs, but the two that I used the most for inspiration are here and here. I ended up using primed pine 1×6’s, 1×4’s and 1×2’s and made sure they were nailed into the studs and painted it to match my trim color.

Honestly, it took me almost as long to style it as it did to build it. I wanted it to be personal to our family, so I included cutouts of the 3 states we’ve lived in, family photos (recent and old ones) and family heirlooms. It’s so us, and we love it! Thanks so much for checking it out! Please comment if you have any questions!
